Fuel injection IC engine - has lower part of swirl chamber formed by ceramic piece cast into cylinder head

The engine has a piston (3) reciprocating in a cylinder (2) closed by a cylinder head (1). The cylinder and head have ribs for air cooling. A swirl chamber (4) of grey cast iron is cast into the cylinder head (1) which is of a light aluminium alloy. The fuel injector and inlet valve open into the swirl chamber. The lower cylindrical section (5) of the swirl chamber is formed by a ceramic piece which is cast into the cylinder head. It has a ridge (9) which fits a recess in the head to hold it firmly in place.
