The apparatus includes two contacts (T1, T11) which open and close alternately, and which are controlled by the timing device. In the first operating mode the switch (T1) is energised from line (P) via a contact (i) a rectifier (V9) and a switch (K21) connected to another rectifier (V3). This operates the control (K11). When the timer produces the next pulse the relay which performs the switching opens, and the contacts (T1, T11) are placed in their rest position. The timer is designed so that the mark-space ratio of the pulses produced is 1:1. The switches and relays of the system are all operated in sequence.
