Fitting or a component of fittings are fastened to a piece of furniture in a cutout or recess by placing the article to be fitted into the cutout or recess and anchoring it there. After the article has been so placed a flowable, curable, anchoring mass is injected under pressure into the gap between the fitting (component) and the wall of the cutout or recess, and allowed to set. The anchoring mass is thermoplastics rendered flowable by heating, specifically one whose softening temp. is lower than that of the fitting (which may also be made of a thermoplastics), or a cold-setting plastics. The component of the fitting may be a plug.
