A lintel comprises a strip member (101) of, e.g. steel positioned between two superimposed brick courses and extending beyond each side of the opening (11). Two end-stop (103) members have downwardly extending lugs (106) which plug into holes in the strip member near its ends and have upstanding portions (104) positioned in respective head joints of the second course of bricks. Stirrup members (107, 207, 307) may also be incorporated in the brickwork to further reinforce the brickwork. <IMAGE> |
