Storage of data words in a memory (MEM) takes place in terms of data blocks (BL1, BL2 etc) and storage of memory check words (A1, A2 etc) which relate to respective data blocks is also provided in the memory. Memory check is effected by reading out the data words of a data block (BL), performing a predetermined arithmetic/logic operation on those words and comparing the result with the memory check word (A) relating to the data block (BL). For example, if the memory check word (A) agrees with the result the read out words are taken to be error free, if there is no agreement the read out words are taken to contain an error. Economy in hardware can be effected since a separate parity check circuit is not required. <IMAGE> |
