Copolymers containing terpenic groups are prepared by polymerizing a mixture of at least one olefine and an unsaturated terpene in the presence of a catalytic system comprising an alkyl of at least one metal of Groups I, II or III and a halide of a transition metal of Groups IV, V or VI The Groups of elements are those of the Periodic System on pages 60 and 61 of " Fundamental Chemistry " by H. G. Denning, Second Edition. The copolymer may be practically linear, amorphous and unsaturated, formed by aliphatic chains containing terpenic groupings and having at least one double bond. In the examples ethylene and propylene are copolymerized with limonene or #-pinene in the presence of cyclohexane, VOCl 3 and (C 2 H 5 ) 2 AlCl and the elastomers formed are vulcanized with sulphur. |
