Spasmolytic medicaments for epilepsy treatment - contg. isopropoxy-phenyl-succinimide

Spasmolytic medicaments contain 2-(p-isopropoxyphenyl) succinimide of formula (I). The medicaments are esp. useful for treating petit mal epilepsy. (I) has higher activity and lower toxicity than phensuximide and ethosuximide. The medicaments are pref. formulated as tablets, each contg. 0.25g of (I), with starch or lactose as filler. The tablets are pref. administered orally 3-6 times a day. (I) can be prepd. by reacting 2-(p-isopropoxyphenyl)succinic acid with acetic anhydride, reacting the produce with etheral NH3, and cyclising the resulting succinamic acid at 200-220 degrees C.
