An adapter (1) is for rod-shaped elements with metal and caps, such as surge arresters or fuse insert cartridges. It consists of a pair of contacts which each form a contact lug with ends turned at right angles. The rectangular extensions are fixed to the face ends of the caps directly by spot welding. The prefered shape of the adapter is a metal strip, bent to a U-shape for the lug, and with rectangular extensions at both ends. The preferred material for the contact lug is German silver, and for the metal cap VACON (RTM a Fe-Co-Ni alloy). This combines a simple manufacturing technology for the adapter with a retention of the existing max. diameter of the end cap.
