A textile fabric, especially a knitted wool fabric, is decorated by passing the fabric through a needle loom 12 and feeding neps, strands or webs of textile fibres on to predetermined areas of the fabric and consolidating them into the fabric by needle punching. A roller 14 may be mounted at the input side of the needle loom 12 to press the neps, strands or webs onto the surface of the fabric. Feed tubes 16, 18 for the fibrous strands are mounted on chains 20 so as to be moveable transversely to the direction of motion of the fabric, so that stripes in various directions can be applied. Transverse or horizontal stripes can be formed by feeding a fibrous strand through a pair of feed rollers (34), Fig. 3, which are pivoted or rotated with respect to direction of motion of the fabric. The decorative fibres can be further consolidated into the fabric by milling. <IMAGE>
