<p>In the sulphite pulping, the yield of pulp is increased by the addition of at least one of a selected group of formates to the cooking liquid before the impregnation of the wood. The formates have the formula: where R is a hexyl group or an unsubstituted or methyl substituted norbornyl group. Desirably formic acid per se is also added to the cooking liquid.</p> |
