CARBONIC ACID ESTERS, AND THE PREPARATION THEREOF AND THEIR USE

A process and novel carbonic acid esters are provided for the protection of amino and imino groups in an amino and imino group-containing compounds; the process comprises reacting an amino or imino group-containing compound with a carbonic acid ester of the formula: R1OCCOOR2 wherein R1 is lower alkyl which may have substituents selected from the group of halogen, lower alkoxy and aryloxy, or ar(lower)alkyl which may be unsubstituted or substituted with one or more of lower alkoxy, halogen, nitro and cyano, and R2 is benzotriazolyl which may have halogen; or a group represented by the formula: wherein Y and Z are each an electron withdrawing group.
