Process for the preparation of a strain of influenza virus and use of this strain for the production of live viral vaccines against influenza

The strain P/76/7 of influenza virus, resistant to serum inhibitors, is obtained by recombining the strains A/PR8/34 and A/Victoria/3/75 of influenza virus with each other and by subjecting the strain resulting from the recombination to three passages through the allantoic cavity of embryonated eggs in the presence of normal guinea-pig serum. A live anti-influenza vaccine is obtained by incubating this serum inhibitor-resistant strain in the allantoic cavity of embryonated eggs, by harvesting the viral material and by freeze-drying it.
