The body (R) of a partly formed metal can is supported in a semi-circular slot (3) in the rim (3) of a wheel (2) which brings the body in line with the pneumatic ram (8). The ram (8) pushes the body (7) into the tapered mouth (23) of the housing(21) of the grinding wheel (4). The taper (23) ensures that the body (R) is concentric with the grinding wheel (4) when the flash or burrs(27) are being ground off. A magnet in the end of the ram (8) facilitates withdrawal from the grinding wheel.
