PRODUCTION OF HEAT-ADHESIVE CONJUGATE FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber giving a bulky nonwoven fabric having soft feeling by drawing a conjugate fiber composed of a sheath component comprising a polyolefin and a core component comprising a thermoplastic poly mer having a melting point higher than that of the polyolefin, heat-treating the drawn fiber at a specific temperature and then subjecting the product to unrestrained heat-treatment. CONSTITUTION:An undrawn fiber having a percentage crimp of >=10% is pro duced by melt-spinning a conjugate fiber composed of a sheath component comprising a polyolefin and a core component comprising a thermoplastic poly mer other than polyolefins and having a melting point higher than that of the polyolefin by >=20 deg.C. The sheath component accounts for >=80% of the surface of the fiber. The undrawn fiber is drawn, heat-treated at a temperature T1 (70-100 deg.C) under tension and then subjected to unrestrained heat-treatment at a temperature higher than T1-10 deg.C to obtain the objective fiber.
