The device provides a current carrying shape for the self-baking electrode, through which a feeding tube passes along its axis. It has further a current lead, a drive for the electrode movement, and a device supplying and pressing the electrode compound. A supporting cylinder (4) is mounted outside the feeding tube and is concentric with it. Its top end is attached to the drive (6) for the electrode (2) movement, and its bottom end to the current carrying sleeve (1). The device for supply and pressing of the electrode cpd. is mounted between the feeding tube (7) and the cylinder (4), fastened on a traverse (10). The latter can be moved up and down by the drive (6) in order to move the electrode.
