PURPOSE:To achieve satisfactory bristle-cutting and to obtain a picture with satisfactory, stable picture quality without disturbing a previously formed developed-picture by using such a developing sleeve that it is brought into a ground condition after the applying of a developing bias is stopped at the time of bristle cutting. CONSTITUTION:A developing device 2 is provided on the lower part of a photosensitive body 1 in the form of a drum; a yellow developing unit 3Y, a magenta developing unit 3M, a cyanogen developing unit 3C, etc. are provided on the inside of the device 2. For example, at the time of development by the yellow developing unit 3Y, bristle cutting is performed on the developing sleeves 4M and 4C of the developing units 3M and 3C, respectively; at the time of bristle cutting, applying of a developing bias voltage to developing sleeves 3M and 3C is stopped, and the developing sleeves 3M and 3C are brought into a ground condition. Consequently, bristle cutting is completely performed when development is not performed. This provides a picture with satisfactory, stable picture quality without disturbing a previously formed developed-picture on a latent image carrier. |
