The device has a plurality of driven printing apparatuses with cylinder stencils or printing rollers or intaglio rollers. These each interact with an opposite support roller. Furthermore, a feed device is provided for the material to be printed, the material web (7) being supported directly by the support rollers (5) during operation. The support rollers are driven during operation by means of a slip drive (10, 11) at a speed which is greater by 0.5 to 1% than the circumferential speed of the stencils or printing rollers. The contact zones of the successive support rollers (5) with the associated printing apparatuses form the bending points of a guide path (A) of the material web to be printed. This path has a broken course which bends out convexly upwards. This device solves the problem of swelling of the fibres occurring as a result of absorbing moisture during the printing of fibrous material. The moisture arises from the colour paste or ink which is fed to the material in the printing devices. This swelling causes the web to increase in length with the risk of folds forming, which is now prevented. <IMAGE> |
