1304879 Forming tubes CENTRE DE RECHERCHES DE PONT-A-MOUSSON 22 Dec 1970 [24 Feb 1970] 60743/70 Heading F2P A device for continuously forming a tube T from a strip of sheet material F comprises a pre-forming flange 3 having a depending tubular portion 2 disposed on a tube 5 which is resiliently carried on a mandrel 1. As shown, the material F is fed from the left, e.g. from a reel, and engages a forming edge 4 which bends the strip and guides it between the tubular forming portion 2 and the tube 5. The tube 5, normally in contact with the inside of the tubular portion 2, is formed with a slot 6 and stand-off mounting tabs 7 and resiliently yields to permit the passage of the tube T without wedging and consequent wrinkling of the material. Grub screws 9, passing through a mounting ring 8 and slots 10 in the tube 5, lock the tube on the mandrel 1. When the tube T emerges from the end of the tubular portion 2, a known device may be engaged to subsequently advance the material by pulling on the tube. |
