The container lies on a vehicle for transport, the vehicle having one or more rams swinging it up and down about a pivot spindle securing it to the vehicle. A fixed assembly accommodates the container in the position for use. In the position for use, the container (3) is inclined and secured in a frame, and the pivot mechanism is formed by two links, each with a male portion (11) having a horizontal surface and a female one (10) with a recessed surface. These are mounted one on the container and one on the vehicle (2) and symmetrically at the sides, and bear against each other under gravity during transport and when lifting initially. The frame has two fixed cradles with supporting surfaces (27) accommodating the container corners (26) after the rear vehicle end (22) has been locked in place and during lifting and securing of the container in position.
