The press consists of a main cylinder with a plunger carrying rod and thrust piece on its end. The thrust piece slides during extrusion in the bore of a blank holder contg. the blank in its original position. While one end of the blank is loaded with the thrust piece, the other end rests against the extruding orifice, which in turn, is loosely fitted against one end (I) of a hollow ram, the other end of which is slidably fitted on a counterhold block bore. At the beginning of the operation, end (I) is locked in position and the extrusion of the blank takes place through an orifice into the hollow part of the ram. Subsequently, ram end (I) is unlocked, the ram moves into the counterhold block-bore until the extruding block reaches the position where it can be removed by a shear assembly, the main cylinder is withdrawn and a new blank with an extruding block is introduced into the bore of the blank holder.
