A magnetic filter for fluent solids, such as flour, cocoa, sugar &c. comprises a hollow permanent magnet assembly 5 having a circular inner cross-section and housing a tubular ferromagnetic cage 1-3 to form a duct for the passage of fluent material axially therethrough, the magnet assembly producing an axiallydirected magnetic field and deflector plates 10, 11 being positioned within the cage to deflect any impinging magnetic material towards the cage sides. The magnet assembly may comprise a hollow cylindrical magnet, possibly formed by a series of coaxial rings, or a circular series of bar magnets 13 as shown in Fig. 2, the assembly being encased in a non-magnetic tube 8. The cage is formed by spaced rings 1 supported on rods 2 carried by an end ring 3, or alternatively the rings 1, 3 are supported solely by the deflector plates 10, 11 which are disposed at right-angles to each other. The magnet assembly has end polepieces 6, 7 which may be of mild steel or may be radially magnetized to prevent flux leakage. |
