Motor with two torque velocity characteristics - has radial permanent magnets set in stator slots associated with wound rotor

The electrical rotating machine design may be utilised for both motor and generator applications. In the motor form it may be run in two alternative torque - velocity modes, ie. high speed and low torque or vice-versa as required for tape recorders. The machine has a wound rotor and a stator which has cut - away sections in which are housed permanent magnets lying along the radii of the machine. The pole pieces themselves flare out circumferentially and includes a secondary winding, such that the machine has two distant windings, one in parallel with the rotor windings and one in series.
