The hollow precast concrete kerb is built from channel units (1), designed to contain public utility mains services (11) and may be used for footpaths. The composite section is built from two superimposed units with the top one inverted. The walls (3, 2) of individual units terminate in a tongue (8) and a groove (7) formation for an interlocking joint. The superimposed units are of the same width but can have a height differential. The units (1) may be half round or of square 'U' section, and may be designed to resist footway loadings. The resultant duct may be incorporated in a footway at a nominal depth below the surface. Prestressing members (5) can be incorporated, including transverse reinforcement (6). The transverse joints can be staggered.
|
