A punch and die set comprises a plate 1 with a punch 10, a plate 2 with a die aperture formed therein, a stripper plate 11 and guide pins 3 to align the plates 1, 2. The plate 2 and die are of one-piece and preferably prehardened steel. The die may be machined in the plate either before or after assembly of the set. The guide pins are secured to the upper plate 1 and are slidably engaged by the other plate. The pins have a groove (38), Fig. 3 (not shown), under a collar 40 into which the material of the plate 1 is made to flow. The pins are further secured to the plate by malleable aluminium rings (52), Fig. 5b (not shown). Lock rings are secured to the ends of the pins. Spring-urged die opening pins 6 are provided between the plates to open the punch and die after punching.</p> |
