<p>In the prodn. of fibrous leather from disintegrated leather water and binders, the binder, in the form of natural or synthetic latex or a synthetic dispersion, is pre-coagulated before addn. to the fibre slurry. Uniform prods. are obtd., even from mixts. of leather waste of different origins. There is a saving in the amt. of binder. Neutralisation before addn. of binder is avoided, and the whole process may be at an acid pH. The binder is esp. natural latex. The binder is diluted, treated with a stabiliser and dispersant, and coagulated. The particle size is controlled by means of the dispersant and stabiliser. The fibre slurry is treated with lubricants, dyes and other additives, and the coagulated binder is added; opt., the binder is fixed on the fibres by further addn. of a coagulant or a flocculating agent. Pptn. of binder frequently occurs without further addns., of may be completed by addn. of a flocculating agent and lowering of the pH. The slurry is then ready for shaping on a filter box or sieve machine.</p> |
