1,189,283. Magnetic transducers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 2 Jan., 1969 [12 Jan., 1968], No. 258/69. Heading G5R. A magnetic transducer comprises a stack of spaced laminations 10.1-10.n having control portions 28 of differing saturation level and coupled by a common control winding 34. The laminations are bonded with copper spacers 12 and notched 26 so that the cross-section of portions 28 varies progressively through the stack whereby a sawtooth or sinusoidal waveform applied to winding 34 causes the laminations to be successively saturated (or unsaturated) so that the data on winding 24 is recorded across the width of the (tape) record 22. A second winding 38 may couple further control portions 30 whose cross-section progresses in the opposite direction so that out-of-phase waveforms applied to windings 34, 38 enable a single or group of laminations for transducing while saturating the rest. |
