<p>The composite timber and steel beam is of 'I' section and is for use in formwork construction. The two flanges (1, 2) of the beam are of plain timber and the web (5) is of ply-wood. THe steel reinforcement comprises 'T' sections (10, 11) which are incorporated in the web (5) to flange (1, 2) junctions. The head and foot of the main web (5) are grooved (8, 9) to each house the web (10, 11) of a longitudinal 'T' section. The webs of the 'T' sections (10, 11) are welded into the grooves (8, 9) in the ply-wood web (5) to produce a flared head effect, and the flanges of the 'T' sections may be spiked (12) to key to the timber flanges (1, 2).
