Accelerated biological treatment of used water - by seeding clay support with yeast

Supports for biological filters, in the treatment of used water, are activated to seed the supports with yeasts of the sub-families Saccharomyces and the genus Candida. The supports are clay materials e.g. unburnt clay, low temp. clays (tiles, bricks), clay burnt at high temp. (chamottes) burnt clays doped with trace elements. Pref. yeasts are Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces boulardii, Candida utilis, Candida tropicalis, Candida lipolytica, Torulopsis; and, partic., baker's yeast (30% dry extract). 2-6Kg dry yeast per tonne of support is pref. used. Polluting substances are digested by the microorganisms in the usual way, but at an accelerated rate.
