Compact ultrasonic scanner with image memory store - operates with chain of transducers subjected to mechanical oscillation

The transducers(1) of the ultrasonic scanner are linked into a flexible chain and this chain is driven along a curved track by an oscillating drive (2, 3) in conjunction with the electronic control for the transmitted pulses and the received echoes. The frequency of the oscillation is coupled to the display sweep of the video output so that a complete image is derived. No separate electronic memory store is required to produce a real time image. The design enables a low cost instrument to be produced.
