The running surfaces of skis, used on cross-country skiing, are coated with wax in order to reduce friction to a minimum. But the type of wax used varies according to the temp. of the snow and so must be changed during long races with changing weather conditions. To facilitate this change of wax coating, the wax is applied to a backing strip of aluminium foil, or synthetic fibre or suitable paper. The other side of the backing strip is coated with adhesive and covered with a protective film. The filmis removed and the backing strip applied to the undersurface of the ski. If necessary one backing strip with a different type of wax can be stuck to a strip already on the ski.
|
