1512165 Triaryl phosphates containing chloroalkyl substituents CIBA-GEIGY AG 10 March 1977 [13 March 1976] 10166/76 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] A triaryl phosphate in which at least one benzene ring may be substituted by 1 to 3 halogen atoms and is substituted by 1 to 3 C 1-4 alkyl groups of which at least one is a C 2-4 alkyl group is reacted with chlorine at 120-200‹ whereby 1 to n chlorine atoms (where n is the number of carbon atoms in the alkyl group) are introduced into the alkyl group to give a triaryl phosphate product containing at least one alkyl group containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms substituted by from 1 to n chlorine atoms. Examples are given and the products are useful as flame retardant additives for vinyl chloride polymers (see Division C3). |
