The brake mechanism is provided with an arm mounted in hinged manner relative to the loom frame. A follower element following the outer periphery of the yarn on the beam is mounted on the arm at a distance from the hinge axis. A transmission is provided between this arm and the adjustable end of the brake band. The transmission is so constructed that a rotation of the arm e.g. caused by the redn. of the outer dia. of the yarn windings on the beam, reduces the tensile force on the brake band and hence the braking action on the beam. The mechanism provides a simple and relatively cheap automatic braking system.
