The coding or making system, for cables and wires, consists of a numbered strip that folds around the wire. The end portions (5, 6) of the strip are adhesive so that they bond together and hold the strip around the wire (7). The strips are joined laterally into a tape and torn or cut off as required. The end portions of the strips are thinner than the U-shaped portions (3) forming the spines, on which the identification number is marked.
