Polymers contg. double bonds in side-chain are used as basic materials for mixts. crosslinkable in the presence of moisute. The polymers can be mechanically and/or thermo-mechanically treated to form free radicals without adding radical formers. Pref. polymers include (1) polymers contg. double bonds in main chain and vinyl side gps. and (2) thermoplastic rubbers, e.g. styrene-butadiene block copolymers. The polymers allow grafting of silanes or silane cpds. having formula R R'SiY2 (where R is a monovalent unsaturated hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxy gp.; each Y is a hydrolysable organic gp. and R' is R or Y) at their free radical positions. Polymer radical yield is high.
