1506285 Reclosable envelope; feeding sheets DRG Ltd 21 May 1975 [28 May 1974] 21988/75 Headings B8K B8B and B8F [Also in Divisions B4-B5] A reclosable envelope, Fig. 1, comprises a cut-out 19 in the closure flap 17 covered by a patch 23 of adhesive tape whose adhesive surface is exposed through the cut-out 19 for cooperation with a patch 21 of glossy surfaced material on the main body of the envelope. Envelopes are adapted to be reclosable in this manner in a machine (see Divisions B4-B5) which includes arrangements for feeding envelopes from a stack, for making the cut-outs 19 and for applying the patches 21, 23. The envelope feed arrangement, Fig. 4, comprises a separator blade 31 which is carried by a rocking arm 35 and separates the bottom envelope from the remainder of a stack of envelopes 25, and suction cups 39 which draw the separated bottom envelope downwards into engagement with feeding discs 45 having envelope engaging recesses. The discs 45 in co-operation with rollers 53 and spacers 55 deliver the envelope to a conveyer 13 which moves the envelopes through the apparatus. Each of the patch applicators, Fig. 11, comprises a tape dispenser 121 for supplying predetermined lengths of tape 123, an applicator wheel 125 against which the tape is held by suction, and a cutter 137 for cutting the patch from the supply of tape. The applicator wheel 125 and the cutter 137 are rotatable in opposite directions 141, 143. The knife of the cutter 137 is lubricated by a rotatable lubricator 147. The two applicators may be mounted one above and one below the conveyer for simultaneous application of patches 21, 23 to the same envelope, or the applicators may both be provided above the conveyer. In the latter instance, the patch 21 is applied first and then the patch 23 is applied after the closure flap 17 has been folded to its closed position by a fixed folding bar. |
