The use of a continuous welding machine described in parent patent is modified to enable two metal strips to be edge welded. One of a pair of electron guns is used to provide a weld zone between the two strips while the other is used to provide a fused zone across a strip. The method is of partic. use when one of the strips is narrower than the other, e.g. in the mfr. of a saw blade.
