Metal-strip material with several profile thicknesses in cross-section is produced by the basic material (M) being pulled in a first step of the method through a shaping attachment with a shaping tool (11) set in such a way that maximum material removal as a function of the tensile strength of the basic material is effected in the process. This material removal is limited to an area of 5 to 50% of the entire surface of the basic material (M), and the volume reduction is in the area of 10-60% of the original cross-section. In a second step of the method, the preformed metal strip (30) is pulled through a drawing tool (31) which gives it its final profiled shape. Here, the metal strip (30) is coated with a lubricant at the entrance of the drawing tool. The consistency of the lubricant is selected in such a way that no direct contact takes place between the metal strip (30) and the drawing tool or its area (38) of cross-sectional reduction. <IMAGE> |
