1422122 Toothed gearing CAM GEARS Ltd 18 July 1973 [18 July 1972] 33558/72 Heading F2Q A rack and pinion unit for a vehicle steering gear comprises a rack bar 8 co-operating with a pinion 1, both of which are mounted within a housing 2 comprising two pre-formed shell-like components 5, 6 which are assembled and secured once and for all around the pinion 1 and rack bar 8 to constitute a unitary housing. Preferably the housing is formed from a moulded plastics material and incorporates longitudinally extending and transversely extending reinforcing ribs. The housing parts 5, 6 may be secured together by heat welding, or alternatively, by an adhesive. |
