The motor driven sliding panel, forming part of a partition or wall, is supported by carriages (12) with rollers travelling on a track (10) suspended from the ceiling. One of the carriages supports a motor (1) with a vertical drive spindle (34) carrying a gear pinion (11) forming a rack and pinion drive, using teeth on teh track (10). Between the motor and the spindle (34) is a planet gear (2, 3) which also drives an internally toothed ring around the top of the housing, forming a driven part of the planet gear. This ring also carries an external helical thread, driving a wheel (51) mounted on a vertical bar (4) the full length of the door, acting as a locking bar. When the wheel is notched, a cam surface (5) is also rotated, forcing the locking bar down into the engaged position. At the same time, an arm on the bar operates a switch (8) to stop the motor.
