Amorphous support foil prodn. for electron microscope specimens - uses glycerine wetted support foil vapours treated on other side

The amorphous support foils for specimens used in electron microscopy are produced by wetting a perforated, relatively thick bearing foil (2) with a highly viscous liquid, such as glycerine. On the surface of the cooled glycerine is vapour deposited the support foil material. The liquid is removed. The bearing foil is wetted on one side only, while the vapour deposition takes place on the other side. The process provides a reliable bonding between the bearing and support foils. The glycerince removed can be attained by dipping into water on alcohol.
