A supporting structure comprises vertical column and lateral members which are of hollow construction and are used as channels for liq. flow. Used for cooling towers, partic. large ones, operating either by direct water-air contact or by indirect heat exchange through radiator surfaces. Cost reduction and improved heat transfer capacity are achieved.
