<p>1501381 Fluid treating device; exhaust gas treatment IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Jan 1975 [14 Jan 1974 28 May 1974] 01618/74 and 23505/74 Headings B1F B1L and BIT [Also in Division B5] An impingement collector or fluid treating device comprises a layer of corrugated metal mesh in laminar juxtaposition to at least one layer of unbonded polycrystalline metal oxide fibres. Catalysts such as chromium compounds or metal phosphate may be included to remove lead from vehicle exhausts, or platinum and palladium may be included to catalyse oxidation of the exhaust gas. Corrugated metal mesh 1 and fibre layer(s) 2 may be wound spirally, set as concentric layers (Fig. 3 not shown) or laminated in flat sheets to provide a structure through which fluid may be passed through the troughs in the corrugations. Lead, or soot may be removed from internal combustion engine exhausts. The mesh may be knitted and may be stainless steel or nickeliron alloy. The fibre may be zirconia or alumina. A catalyst may be deposited on the fibre or metal mesh. A flat mesh 3 may be interposed between the corrugated mesh and the fibre layer.</p> |
