The armchair which converts into a bed has a folding framework and accommodates the bed mattress beneath the chair seat. The mattress is subdivided longitudinally into three similar elements (22 to 24) which stack beneath the seat and each element is supported on an individual longitudinal bay (2 to 4) of the extended support frame. The bays (2 to 4) articulate relative to one another, and the retracted frame is accommodated behind the chair back. The head bay (2) may be supported on two pin-jointed stays (5, 6) from a floor frame (1), aligns horizontally when deployed and aligns vertically when retracted. The foot bay (4) is mounted on pin-jointed legs (14) with castors, and pivoting links (15, 17) join the head and foot bays (2, 4).
