In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 4, each pair of legs 6 is connected to the stretcher frame 1 by pneumatic springs 9 wherein a lever may be used to adjust and fix the length of the springs 9 according to the desired height of the stretcher. In a modification, Fig. 5, a webbing 20 is attached to a tubular steel frame 21. The generally rectangular frames 25 of tubular aluminium are pivotally attached to the frame 21 and to wheeled carriage frames 28. The side guards 23 may be slidable longitudinally of the frame 21.
