1497565 Balancing MITSUBISHI JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 17 Feb 1975 [24 July 1974] 6683/75 Heading F1M An engine balancer mechanism includes at least one pair of balancer shafts 2, 3 with balance weights 8 located on opposite sides of the crank-shaft of the engine, the balancer shafts being substantially parallel to and situated at different heights relative to an axis of the crank-shaft and arranged to be driven by the crank-shaft at twice the speed of the crank-shaft. One of the balancer shafts 2 is interconnected with the crank-shaft to be rotated in the same direction of rotation as the crank-shaft and the other balancer shaft 3 has a gear 5 engaging with a gear 11 mounted on a rotatable shaft 12 of an auxiliary device driven by the crank-shaft so that in use the other balancer shaft is rotated in a direction opposite to that of the crank-shaft. The auxiliary device may comprise an oil pump and the gears 5, 11 form the drive and driven gears of the oil pump. Alternatively the auxiliary device may be a water pump, an air pump or a dynamo. |
