1455182 Two part coupling BUNKER RAMO CORP 1 Feb 1974 [1 Feb 1973] 04825/74 Heading H2E In a connector, one member carrying contacts enclosed in dielectric within a shell itself floating resiliently in an outer housing attachable to a mounting, also carries a sleeve fitting telescopically with a sleeve in the other member with alignment means parallel to the mating axis and outside the sleeve, engaging the other member before the sleeves. Member 13, intended for mounting at the back of an equipment rack inserted from the front, carries contacts 17 in dielectric insert 19 within shell 21 bearing flange 23 held at the rear by lipped nut 25 screwed on to the shell. The flared sleeve 27 extending from flange 23 carries in its mouth the straight entrances of bayonet slots 31 engaging pins 32 on the mating sleeve 61 of second member 15. Alignment pins 35 project from lugs 34 on flange 23, preferably in a horizontal plane; immediately behind the pins a coil spring 39 lies in housing 41 mounted on the equipment rack 43, allowing the member to float axially on engagement. Additional pins 81 ensure engagement with correct orientation. Pins 35 enter appropriate flared bushings on the second connector member. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) in which the guide pins are on the second member and the bushing on the first, to allow passage of the pins the coil spring is replaced by a plurality of small coil springs spaced round a circle of radius equal to the ofaxis distance of the pins. Earthing clips 48 and seal 49 maintain continuity and exclude moisture etc.
|
