In this method, a low pressure is generated in a room by a fan, which pressure has the effect that an unlocked window leaf (3), which bears against an outer frame (2), opens automatically according to the pressure difference so that outside air flows in until the pressure difference is eliminated. The window leaf (3) is then pressed against the outer frame (2) by an additional means (9) which consists of a leaf-side stopping nose (23) and an outer-frame-side pivot plate (17), the stopping nose (23) acting eccentrically in relation to a pivot axis (18) of the pivot plate (17) and the window leaf (3) being applied against the outer frame (2) by the leaf weight. This method serves, in the ventilation of a room provided with at least one window leaf (3) to be opened and a fan, to cause the quantity of spent room air carried off by the fan to be replaced by the same quantity of outside air. <IMAGE>
