<p>Method of monitoring and analysing the operation of a dual plate press consists of measuring the displacement of two plates and plotting these displacement on orthogonal axes in such a way that they regulate the movement of a point which describes a Lissajous figure. This figure is representative of the movements and relative speed of the plates. Pref. a second Lissajous figure representing the desired movement and relative speed of the plates is superimposed upon the first, thus enabling a comparison between the desired and actual operation to be made. Used for the pressing of uranium dioxide fuel pellets for nuclear reactors. The method enables the movement of the press to be accurately compared with the required movement and to a great extent eliminates the need for high skill and experience of the part of the operator. It enables the operation to be highly reproducible in its accuracy.</p> |
