The damper, for attenuating long wave oscillations of overhead lines, has its installation and mfr. simplied and is unaffected by weather conditions. - A tube (7) closed at both ends supports the line (9) and is itself supported by an insulating chain (4) from eg a mast. The tube is party filled with a viscous liquid (12) that attenuates the movement of a ball (11) inside the tube. (The ball moves due to the movement of the line). The tube may be curved or replaced by a hollow horizontal toroid. It may also contain more than one ball.
