Each palette is provided with two uprights (14) along each lateral side which are secured to the base of the palette (1) in positions not directly opposite each other. At the top of each upright are two plates, one fixed, which is directed inwards towards the palette, and the other movable, so that it can be either directed outwards from the palette or along the sides of the palette, thereby supporting one palette above another and also those at either side, if required. The uprights can be raised or lowered by a system of levers (5, 6) mounted on bearings (16) and connected to a handle (17). The palettes are stacked in piles with the uprights raised so that any palette can be retrieved from the stack without disturbing the others.
